Hi there! I'm Carol, an artist living in beautiful Maine, where the coastal landscape is a daily inspiration. My art journey began with a simple desire to capture the stunning scenes around me, especially some amazing birds that call this place home. My seagull paintings came first because—these birds are everywhere—and pretty easy to photograph. The more I watched them, the more I noticed their poses and interactions. That fascination quickly grew to include Puffins, Bluebirds, and Barn Swallows. Their expressions and interactions often seem to tell human-like stories. And creating fun titles like "It's Good To Be A Gull," "Best Foot Forward," and "When Sand Gets In Your Eyes" add a playful personality to each piece.
I became a fan of “daily painting,” which means I paint—every day, even if only for an hour—and create small works that I post and sell online (cakl-artwork.com). This approach keeps things fun and allows me to be expressive and experimental without the pressure of creating a ‘masterwork.’
My art training began at Holy Cross College, in Worcester, MA where I juggled my passions for science and art. I thought about becoming a medical illustrator at one point. But even with a career in healthcare development and public relations, I never stopped drawing and painting. At one point creating large figurative works.
These days, art is my focus—meeting weekly with the Mainely Painters, a fantastic group of seacoast artists and friends, where we share inspiration and grow together.
